About the Miss Hoopeston Program

The Hoopeston Jaycees are proud to be the sponsors of Miss Hoopeston, but with that comes the difficult task of deciding who will represent the city each year.  Each fall, the Jaycees enlist the help of teachers from Hoopeston Area High School to gather nominations of recent graduates who are deserving of this title.  The nominees are then mailed an application, and it is always the hope of the Jaycees that each young lady will continue through the interview process.

Interviews are conducted with the candidates, using the following local dignitaries as judges: President of the Hoopeston Jaycees, National Sweetcorn Festival Chariman, Mayor of Hoopeston, Executive Director of the National Sweetheart Pageant and President of the Hoopeston Chamber of Commerce.  The lucky lady who is chosen as the next Miss Hoopeston is typically crowned at the Community Awards Banquet in late January.

Miss Hoopeston has been considered a very elite title since its initiation, and she serves as the official hostess of the National Sweetcorn Festival, now in its 69th year.  She is also a representative of the Hoopeston Jaycees and City of Hoopeston, and acts as such at various events throughout the Central Illiana Area during her year.
